Fourteen Children in Tanzania Begin School as Young Scholars

In September, fourteen children in Arusha, Tanzania were given consistent access to three meals each day, proper medical care, and a quality education for the first time in their lives.

They are our first young scholars, and they’ve only just begun their journey.

In 2012, these were the conditions that inspired YSP. The team worked together.* They came from an orphanage of 200 children. Most drank from the same river they bathed in. They slept 70 to a room, many on the floor. At the day’s meal time, they took turns eating corn mush or porridge, sharing the bowls among themselves. Many were sick, often with HIV. Almost all were starving.
